— Concept
The main objective in designing the Altamira replica was to create a tour that would enhance the cave itself and its paintings, prioritising the sensory experience over the informational. The aim was to create a vivid recreation that would transport visitors to the Palaeolithic without deceiving them, creating a captivating atmosphere and an immersive experience..
— Process
The replica of the Altamira cave was created from the three-dimensional plans of the Spanish National Geographic Institute. Using expanded polystyrene, the original volumes were formed and a real textured layer was added. Silicone moulds made it possible to create the scenographic “skin”, replicating the cave with mixtures of limestone powder for colour and texture. The result: a fibreglass puzzle mounted on a reinforcement structure, installed in Altamira with cables..
— Experience
The visitor experience at the Neocueva de Altamira is a fascinating immersion in Palaeolithic cave art. Using innovative technology, the atmosphere of the original cave is recreated, providing a unique connection with the prehistoric paintings…an adventure that takes you back in time!
